Learning Beyond the Classroom with Semester, Summer, or Short-term Study Abroad Opportunities!

The UNC Asheville Department of Business is committed to helping students explore their potential through experiential education opportunities. Studying abroad as a business major is one way students can expand their experiences and develop an understanding of the world and their place as global citizens. By participating in a study abroad program, business majors receive a competitive edge in today’s job market.

Business Major Requirements

As part of the curriculum requirements for graduation, UNC Asheville business majors must fulfill either an internship, an undergraduate research project, the Consulting Practicum, or a study abroad program. To fulfill the requirement via study abroad, students will complete at least 4 business focused credit hours abroad in an approved study abroad program.

Study Abroad Program Options

UNC Asheville business students have a variety of opportunities to study abroad for a summer, a semester, or a full academic year, while earning credit toward their business major and/or general education requirements. To fulfill the required 4 credit hours for the major, students may take a range of approved business-related courses abroad. Additional coursework can also be applied to degree requirements, and, when possible, course approvals are secured prior to departure so students understand how credits will transfer toward their UNC Asheville degree.

In addition, short-term UNC Asheville faculty-led programs focusing on management and business abroad are also an option where students visit international companies, hear guest lectures on local business and economic topics, and participate in numerous cultural immersion activities.

No. The majority of management and business focused study abroad programs offer coursework in English. View programs with business courses offered in English.

Most of the semester study abroad programs offered by UNC Asheville have the same tuition as studying on the UNC Asheville campus (exchange based programs). Please visit the Study Abroad Office website for more information about tuition, financial aid, and scholarships.

Step 2:

Students should plan to meet with the Business Department Study Abroad Coordinator, Dr. Deena Burris (dburris@unca.edu), where students will discuss optimal courses to take on their study abroad program and how those credits could transfer back to UNCA.
